Hello all!

My name is Michelle Silva, and I am a Casting Producer for ABC's Wife Swap. The casting department uses Tribe and MySpace as way to find people with specific interests. For our third season, we are currently looking for Hip Hop families! Hip Hop isn’t just about music; it’s a way of life. We want to find a family that lives for Hip Hop and can teach another family about their way of life. Our show reaches millions of people across America, and it’s a great way to expose some of the myths and misunderstandings people may have about the Hip Hop lifestyle. Not to mention, it’s great exposure for aspiring musicians!

Wife Swap is the series where two moms switch houses for six days and live in the shoes of the other woman. Please visit our website for more information: http://abc.go.com/primetime/wifeswap/index.html

If you are not interested in this oppurtunity, maybe you know someone who might be? Any person who refers a featured family receives a $1,000 referral award.

In order to apply for the show, families must have two parents and at least one child between the ages of 6-18 still living at home.

Families selected to appear on the show receive $20,000 from ABC Television.

If you or anyone you know are interested in applying, please email me at michelle.silva@rdfusa.com or call me directly at (212) 404-1470. Thanks for your time.

Public Image Enemy is a multidisciplinary celebration featuring artwork, performance, and music which results from the collision and collaboration of Punk Rock and Hip Hop artists.

The art and music, performance, etc. will be a celebration of the 30th anniversaries of punk rock and hip hop cultures.
(We are using these terms in the broad sense, including the sub-genres and side-genres)

We will focus on the places where the two cultures borrow from eachother and / or collaborate with each other. We are interested in hip hop artists that are influenced by punk and punk artists that are influenced by hip hop. Regardless of how much stylistic crossover there is, we are most excited about bringing the two cultures together in one forum.
Artists from each camp who don't normally work with each other have already started collaborating in preparation for this series.

Music & Performance - bringing together breaking, punk/ experimental/ underground music groups, emcees, deejays, beat-boxers, performance art, and more.

So I posted this in the Underground Hip Hop Tribe, but to be honest, I like the subterranean tribe better and it doesn't get as much love and attention.

So I've been loving

Asamov - And Now...

especially the song supa dynamite (with mr. lif). Yo, anybody that hasn't yet HAS to track this song down.

Tonedeffs - Archetype

I'm not super interested in the content of tonedeffs flows but he displays a professionally broad range of styles. Some shit is crazy technical. I especially like Issawn and Let's go.

I've finally been getting into Eyedea and Abilities.

Also been loving Cyne which is a little crew from florida. Especially the four tet remix of Automaton on the running water ep. That song is hot.

I've had the As Heard on Radio Soulwax albums going too. Lots of hip hop mashups and weird electronic tracks. good party shit.

I just picked up an album called favela booty beats which is baile funk from brazil. Some of you might know of diplo either from his shit with hollertronix or MIA. He did an album worth checking out called favela on blast, strictly speaking this is in no way hip hop, but I feel like it's a style some people on here might be sympathetic to. check out favela on blast and if you like it scope favela booty beats.

I've been rolling with a couple zion i albums that I've been meaning to check out for a while. Deepwater Slang 2.0 and True and Livin.

I grabbed blockheads new album but nothing off of it has caught my attention yet. There are a couple tracks on Illogic's Celestial Clockwork album that i'm in love with. (birthright feat blueprint and 1000 whispers)

Andy - I've been wanting to check out the blueprint and qwel and maker albums. I've never heard of ras kass, medusa and feline science, or think differently. A friend was raving about Long Hot Summer

----

If you're still reading this, congratulations I've got a present for you....I've posted some of these tracks on my mp3 blog
http://blog.magicpants.net/?p=658
Dear Friend of Hip Hop Culture:

We invite you to become a member of one of the most unique and innovative organizations in the world, The Universal Federation for the Preservation of Hip Hop Culture, Inc. devoted exclusively to promoting, strengthening and preserving Hip Hop culture throughout the world.

Established in New York City in 2003 as a nonprofit, tax-exempt organization, the mission of the Universal Federation for the Preservation of Hip Hop Culture is: To preserve Hip Hop culture and provide instruction on the ramifications, significance, social history, and placement of Hip Hop culture.

The Federation is the nation’s first nonprofit organization which includes the actual inventors of Hip Hop music and culture. Our members include Afrika Bambaataa, GrandMaster Caz, GrandMaster Melle Mel, Lovebug Starski, among others.

Our immediate goal is to create the National Center for the Study and Preservation of Hip Hop Culture. This multi-million dollar, state of the art Center, will be located in the Bronx—the birthplace of Hip Hop. The Center will house the archives of the chronological evolution of Hip Hop music through the preservation of documents, artifacts, musical compositions, collections, artist biographical information and other memorabilia. Simultaneously, an educational program will be developed to serve as an international place of study.

Why Become a Member?

If you believe in and share our mission, if you are seeking an avenue to meet and interact with others who share that mission, if you want to be a part of something bigger than yourself, then join us. You will be an important part of an historical movement to preserve the 30+-year of Hip Hop culture.

Who Can Become a Member?

All individuals, public and private organizations, businesses, corporations and foundations are eligible to become members of the Universal Federation for the Preservation of Hip Hop Culture provided they subscribe to the mission of the Center, meet any additional qualifications adopted from time to time by the organization’s board of directors, and pay an annual membership fee determined by the board of directors.

Types of Membership

* Full Membership - open to any individual who meets the above criteria.
* Associate Membership - open only to students pursuing full-time undergraduate or graduate work, high school students, retirees or others for whom the financial burden of full membership may be prohibitive.
* Institutional Membership - open to any public, private association, organization or institution, business corporation or foundation who meet the previously stated criteria.

All memberships are non-voting.

All Members must pay an annual membership fee which will be valid for one year or other specified time period from receipt of payment. Current membership fees, which are tax-deductible, are as follows:

BACKGROUND INFORMATION:
On January 21st, 2005, an offensive song/skit containing openly derogatory and racist overtones reached millions of listeners in New York City when it was broadcast on Hot 97's "Miss Jones in the Morning" radio show. While the radio show has a history of recording and playing such spoofs on a regular basis, the infamous "Tsunami Song" mocks not only the victims of the unfortunate recent natural disaster in Southeast Asia, but also all members of the Asian race in general with the racial slurs "chink" and "Chinamen."

Choice lyrics included:
- "All at once you could hear the screaming ch*nks and no one was safe from the wave there were africans drowning, little chinamen swept away you could hear god laughing, 'swim you b*tches swim'"
- "So now you're screwed, it's the Tsunami, you better run or kiss your ass away, go find your mommy, I just saw her float by, a tree went through her head, and now the children will be sold to child slavery..."

Just prior to the broadcasting of this inflammatory and extremely distasteful audio, the airwaves erupted into hostility when the popular morning show's hosts argued about playing the "Tsunami Song." The on-air quarrel started when Miss Info openly voiced that she had no involvement with either the production or publication of the song, as she personally found the views expressed in the song offensive. The show's other two co-hosts Miss Jones and Todd Lynn then launched into an abusive tirade against Miss Info for her lack of co-operation. At one point, Todd Lynn stated that he was going to start shooting Asians while Miss Jones told Info she's only complaining because "you feel superior, probably because you're Asian."

You can hear the audio for yourself at: http://www.thesilent1.com/longer_hot97_tsunami.mp3

__________________________________________________________
PETITION STATEMENT:
We ask that all Hot 97 employees actively involved with the production and broadcast of the ill-humoured "Tsunami Song" played on "Miss Jones in the Morning" on January 21st, 2005, be fired and blacklisted from working at the radio station permanently. In particular, Miss Jones and co-host Todd Lynn were guilty of not only producing the audio, but voicing openly-racist attitudes unapologetically on the airwaves. They have not, to this point, even made a public apology on their own behalves. This kind of behaviour is simply intolerable, and Hot 97’s refusal to address the problem at hand will not come without serious consequences for the radio station as no corporation would support such an organization.

Sincerely,

The Undersigned

Click Below to Sign the Petition!
http://www.petitiononline.com/endhate/petition-sign.html

Pass this around, get it signed by everyone you know.

What gets me most about this is the fact that it made international headline news, and anyone who don't know the truth about the truth thinks this is what hiphop is all about. So even though who works and doesn't work on a radio station in NYC doesn't affect me, in that way it does. So show some support and let people know that we are hiphop and we have nothing to do with sick fascists like these kids.

And I know a lot of people find it hard to swallow this
Because subliminal bigotry makes you hate my politics
But you act like America wouldn't destroy two buildings
In a country that was sponsoring bombs dropped on our children
I was watching the Towers, and though I wasn't the closest
I saw them crumble to the Earth like they was full of explosives
And they thought nobody noticed the news report that they did
Four non-Arabs arrested during the emergency
And then it disappeared from the news permanently
From the same people that sabotaged Senator Wellstone
The military industry got it poppin' and lockin'
Looking for a way to justify the Wolfowitz Doctrine
And as a matter of fact, Rumsfeld, now that I think back
Kill freedom of speech and revoke the right to abortions
Tax cut extortion, a blessing to the wealthy and wicked
But you still have to answer to the Armageddon you scripted
And Dick Cheney, you fucking leech, tell them your plans
About building your pipelines through Afghanistan
And how Israeli troops trained the Taliban in Pakistan
You might have some house niggas fooled, but I understand
Colonialism is sponsored by corporations
That's why Halliburton gets paid to rebuild nations
Tell me the truth, I don't scare into paralysis

As a Temple member it is my responsibility to post this up, as a Hiphoppa it is your duty to spread the word, peace!

- A TEMPLE OF HIPHOP ANNOUNCEMENT -

Peace. May 16th-23rd 2004 marks the 7th Annual Hip Hop Appreciation Week. Our theme this year is faith—fear not, only believe. Every year during the third week in May, conscious Hiphoppas come together to discuss Hiphop beyond entertainment. Such a discussion however is not for everyone. Everyone does not see the vision of a unified, self-governed and prosperous Hiphop Kulture. Most people can only understand Hiphop as rap music. Even more people prefer to only use the elements of Hiphop to satisfy their own individual desires. Are you one of these people? Hip Hop Appreciation Week is a time set aside to show one’s appreciation for what Hiphop has done to advance the quality of one’s life. Such a vision is reserved for those who truly care for the further development of Hiphop—the culture. We believe in Hiphop’s ability to prevent sickness, hate, ignorance and poverty while producing health, love, awareness and wealth. Hip Hop Appreciation Week is our time to publicly manifest such a vision. How will you support?

Every year during Hip Hop Appreciation Week the Temple of Hiphop presents a series of cultural conferences throughout the United States aimed at addressing some of Hiphop’s more pressing cultural issues. This year our conference will explore
ways in which Hiphop can direct the attention of its community (especially youth) toward excellence in math, science, engineering and space exploration. We know that it is the power of Hiphop that authenticates people, places and things
and makes them cool (appealing) to those youth influenced by Hiphop. We know that it is Hiphop that is actually speaking to our youth. With this in mind, we have decided to present our 2004 Hip Hop Cultural Conference at the National Aeronautics Space Administration headquarters (NASA) in Washington DC in an
attempt to promote the coolness of math, science, engineering and space exploration within the Hiphop community.

On May 19th 2004 the Temple of Hiphop will be inviting one hundred math and science students from the Washington, DC area along with NASA’s scientists, some three hundred prominent Hiphop activist, artist, ministers, politicians and teachers to discuss Hiphop’s cultural role in the positive promotion of math, science, engineering and space exploration amongst our youth. Would you like to be part of this historic discussion? What can you contribute toward the success of our conference? How will you support? We are confirming our panel of Hiphop
speakers/activist now. We would be honored to include your name and/or organization’s logo to our list of speakers, contributors and sponsors. To pledge your support and/or confirm your attendance, please call 1-818-848-9030
or email: info@Temple of hiphop.org. Thanks for listening.
